Wave vs Hotpoint and Simple Booth for Photo Booth Installs

Published on April 9, 2019

If you’ve made it here you’re probably aware of all the marketing benefits of having a social photo booth installed in your location; collect emails, increase sales, create social influencers etc. The question is, how do you choose which photo booth to go with? An app seems like a good place to start, but search photo booth app on iTunes and you’ll land in a sea of options. And what about hardware? Lighting? Software for management? This seems to be getting a bit complicated. Not to worry, we’re going to save you a lot of trouble and let you in on a secret – there’s really only three viable options on the market. If you want to have a professional and reliable photo booth for your location here are the options: Wave, Halo, and Lightbox.

Now that you know what’s available, let’s take a look at six reasons why Wave is the best choice for locations who need a solution that is easy to manage, high quality, and will give you the most bang for your buck.

1. Wave doesn’t watermark your photos and videos.

To get the most out of your photo booth install, you want to be sure that your brand is making an impression every time a photo or video is shared to social media. When you share that precious screen space with another brand, in this case the photo booth supplier,  you’re really reducing your impact. Wave not only gives you the ability to change out your graphic overlays as much as you want, but there is no other watermark in sight.

2. Wave creates the highest quality content.

There is no doubt that your customers are going to engage with a free photo booth, but that’s not your only goal. You want them to actually share that content to social media in order to expand your reach to their network. To ensure this happens, you want the quality of the media to be great and you want it to be unique. When you look at Wave compared to Halo and Lightbox, you can see an obvious quality difference in how our videos playback. Unlike the other two, Wave mimics the popular boomerang style with a smooth loop that bounces back and forth. Our quality goes even deeper than just the style of gif with our facial exposure software. This additional feature adjusts the exposure of the photos and videos based on the faces in the shot, instead of other areas like tvs or neon signs in the background.

3. Wave’s white light doesn’t stay on all the time.

Lighting is what makes the photos look good, so it’s definitely necessary for a digital photo booth. But, when the photo booth isn’t in use, the bright white light shouldn’t remain on. That’s why we designed Wave with integrated bluetooth lighting. When the app isn’t in use, the lights change to a standby color of your choice. Then, when someone takes a photo the light changes to white to ensure a high quality capture. This may seem like a small point, but when you see how bright a white LED light can look in a dark venue, you’ll understand why we took the extra effort to include this feature.

4. You can manage Wave remotely.

When you need to make a change to an overlay or email template on Wave, you can login to your account and update your unit(s) in the field with a few clicks. There’s no need to close out of the app, or do anything on-site. If you want to make changes with Hotpoint, you’re going to need to email or call and request the change, then wait for their team to fulfill your request. Simple Booth is slightly better since they do offer a client portal, but for changes to actually appear, you’ll usually need someone to be on-site to adjust the app settings locally.

5. Overlays can be changed with a visual editor.

While we’re talking about software, let’s highlight a great feature that you get with Wave that you won’t get from anyone else; a visual editor so anyone can create overlay artwork. We understand that you might not have time and resources to get a fancy overlay made by your creative team (or maybe you don’t have a creative team), so we made this tool for you to build your own. Just drag and drop graphics and logos to build your overlay in seconds. Hit save and watch the overlay go live.

6. You only pay for Wave when you need it.

Maybe you use it on an event-basis, or you have a slow season and don’t need a photo booth every day of the year.  Wave lets you adjust your number of licenses to match your needs- even if you drop it all the way down to zero, which effectively pauses your billing. You won’t find this flexibility with Hotpoint since it is a contract-based subscription, and if you want to stop using Simple Booth you’ll have to cancel your account entirely. If flexibility is important to you, you’ll appreciate our approach in designing a subscription model that only charges our customers for what they need, when they need it.
